I had kids a little later in life and my 40s are right around the corner. I’m 1 year postpartum, but I’ve experienced a lot of changes to my body like hair loss, dizziness, weight gain, anxiety, and fatigue. Having young kids and a job makes it hard for me to prioritize my health but I know things are changing and I want to be proactive about preparing for the shifts in midlife.
I've had a hard time finding a provider who takes time to prepare me for what’s next while also supporting me during this big transition from pregnancy care to midlife care.

My periods have always been kind of irregular, but in my 20s, they became really unpredictable. I didn’t know anything was wrong until I tried to get pregnant and couldn’t. Apparently I wasn’t ovulating or wasn’t ovulating regularly. I’d also struggled with weight fluctuations for most of my life, despite my active lifestyle and commitment to eating well. When I went to my PCP and found out that I was prediabetic, I was shocked and scared, but didn’t feel like my providers were very motivated to help me.
It has been really challenging to find one provider who would help manage my PCOS, prediabetes, and weight/nutrition goals. Ideally, I would like to have one place to address my conditions so things aren’t falling between the cracks and I can better understand how to prevent complications.

In my early 40’s, my sleep degraded significantly to the point where 3-4 hours a night was a “good” night’s sleep. While I’m someone who doesn’t seem to need a lot of sleep, my energy levels and mood definitely suffered.
The sleep disruption seemed to be better at times and worse at others, so it never occurred to me that I was having perimenopausal symptoms. I only realized after becoming post-menopausal and educating myself as to treating those symptoms that I understood my severe sleep disruption was related to perimenopause. I suffered needlessly for years because not understanding the underlying cause of my symptoms meant that I did not know to seek help from my medical providers for relief.
